24-year-old student arrested as detectives recover heroin worth Ksh1.2M in Mombasa

A 24-year-old college student was on Thursday, February 1, 2024, arrested at his house in Mshomoroni, Kisauni sub-county for possession of heroin.

The suspect, Killian Makuto Dunda, a student at the Technical University of Mombasa was arrested by Moi International Airport Anti-narcotics officers who were acting on an intelligence report.

During his arrest, the officers recovered 300 grams of heroin worth Ksh1.2 million wrapped in a clear polythene bag.

The suspect was frogmarched to the police station where he is currently cooling his heels pending arraignment today.

“The detectives were acting on an intelligence report, which also led to the arrest of Killian Makuto Dunda (the student) at his Mshomoroni house, Kisauni sub-county.

“Found wrapped in a clear polythene bag, the brownish/whitish drug which has an estimated street value of Sh1.2 million was tested on site, turning positive for heroin. The exhibit was secured pending further sampling at the government chemist, as the suspect awaits arraignment today,” a statement by DCI reads in parts.

Elsewhere in Nairobi, police have arrested a wanted criminal gang leader after a tip from members of the public.

The suspect, Edward Wanyama Mukanga aka Ramadhan Mukanga was declared a wanted man over his involvement in the Siaya attack that left a police officer dead and another injured.

He was arrested while in a hideout within Nairobi’s Dandora slum on Friday.

“Edward was arrested while in a hideout within Nairobi’s Dandora slum on Friday 26th January 2024. Earlier, the police had published names and photos of Abu Naiyah and his associates including Edwin Omondi alias Rashid, Simon Ochieng Ouma alias Ali Baba, Salim Jackoyo and Hasting Omondi on the media and appealed to members of the public to share any information on their whereabouts,” a statement by DCI read in parts.

Following his arrest, police pleaded with the rest of the gang members to surrender to the nearest police station.
