Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is set to add another cap to his feather following his nomination to join the governing board of Weldios University in Benin.

The institution’s Chancellor Dr. Chris Oyakhilome, in an invitation letter to Mr. Owino dated February 7, 2024, said they settled on the lawmaker due to his academic track record as well as contribution to the general growth of the continent.

“The Chancellor Weldios University Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome Dsc. Dsc. D.D. and The Governing Board of Weldios University upon this official letter has after due diligence nominated you to be a member of our Governing Board of the prestigious Institution,” read the letter that was also signed by the university’s Selection Board Chairman Dr. Ugo Magnus Kel and Founder Prof. Guidi Salomon.

“This honorary recommendation and call to serve is sequel to your excellence, panache and dexterity of contribution to the wellbeing of the institution overtime coupled with your strength of character and integrity and track record of well meaning contribution to the society and the Africa at large.”

Mr. Owino, in his acceptance letter, cited his personal stint at the Weldios University where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Leadership in November last year.

The outspoken legislator described the institution as “a hotbed of ideas and progressive dialectics,” adding that he was humbled and privileged to be nominated to the board.

“There is no better hotbed of ideas and progressive dialectics than at the Weldios University. Since November 2023, I have had the great honour of carrying a Doctorate degree conferred on me by Weldios University of Management and Technology. It is an honour I carry with prestige and humility, well aware of the expectation to serve,” he stated.

“I was touched by the contents of the invitation letter dated 7th February 2024, in which your institution rightly describes this as a call to serve. It is my belief that we live to serve society, humanity and the underserved. In this regard, I admire the institution’s commitment particularly to the underserved continent of Africa and its people. It is a commitment I will cherish every opportunity to contribute to.”
