Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa has officially assumed the role of Chancellor at the  Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST).

Taking to social media platform X after the official inauguration ceremony, Ndegwa expressed enthusiasm for his new role, emphasising his commitment to furthering the university’s mission.

“It’s truly a privilege to take on this role, and I am humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me by the university. As I embark on this new journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and dedication to advancing the mission of Meru University of Science and Technology,” he said.

“Together, let us continue to strive for excellence, embrace innovation, and empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers.“

The telco boss, who is replacing Equity CEO Dr. James Macharia to become the university’s second chancellor, assumed the position following a presidential appointment in November 2023.

Macharia’s tenure lapsed on July 20, 2023.

Announcing his appointment via a gazette notice, President William Ruto said Ndegwa will assume the position effective November 1, 2023, for a period of five years.
