Police officers in Meru County have recovered a G3 police firearm said to have gone missing in September 2023.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the rifle was recovered inside the house of a male suspect identified as George Mutembei in Ndunyuruma village of Rwarela-Buuri East.

The suspect however had already gotten wind that police officers were tracking him down and managed to flee before the bust, leaving the rifle in the hands of his 30-year-old wife Priscilla Ntinyari.

“Another suspect, Joseph Muriungi M’nabea, 40 was also arrested as a person of interest in the case, and interrogations are ongoing to determine his relations with the escapee,” said DCI on X.

DCI believes Mutembei is part of a gang that has been arrested in connection with the theft of another police firearm (AK47)

A manhunt has been launched for the suspect who is still at large.
