Police in Embakasi, Nairobi County, are investigating an incident where a man allegedly assaulted his seven-year-old daughter who later succumbed to her injuries.

According to the police, the man was disciplining her at their home for unknown reasons

“The girl reportedly ran away from her father, who was ‘disciplining’ her for unknown reasons, on Tuesday and as she was running away she hit a table and fell backwards, seriously injuring herself,” a police statement read in part.

The man rushed her to a nearby clinic where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The distraught father told police he did not want his daughter dead.

Police said the body had visible injuries to the neck, hands and swollen forehead.

The man was detained while the body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

The incident comes amid calls for parents and guardians to be careful when disciplining their children.

Last week, police in Kwale arrested a 30-year-old woman who allegedly assaulted her 7-year-old daughter.

According to a police report, neighbours raised alarm when they found the suspect beating her up at around 9 pm. The child’s screams from their Ngathini village home woke neighbours who ran to her rescue.

“The neighbours intervened and the screams went silent, according to the person who reported the matter. However, in the morning, the mother was nowhere to be seen, raising eyebrows,” a police report said.

It was later discovered that the girl had died and preparations for her burial were underway 30 kilometres away at their rural home.

Police have since arrested the woman who is said to have secretly moved the body to her Mrima village home for interment.

“It emerged that the suspect had wrapped the body in pieces of cloth. Blood stains were also discovered around the mouth,” said the report.

The woman is suspected to have assaulted her daughter using a chapati roller, causing injuries that police reckon led to her death.
