Little known Denmark FC from Kwale County have vowed to stop 20-time Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia, when the two sides lock horns on Sunday in the FKF Cup round of 32.
According to Denmark’s assistant coach Juma Kalato, they will depend on their newly signed experienced players to sink Gor at the Ukunda Show Ground.
“We have prepared so well for Gor, we do respect them as a big club in East Africa but we will give them a run for their money on Sunday. We go into the match as the underdogs but we know that is somehow to our advantage – no pressure at all,” said Kalato.
He added, “We have players who have played up to National Super League and we will depend on them as well as our fan base to rally behind us.”
At the same venue, Tusker FC will face another Kwale-based side Bumbani Stars who play in the National Division Two league.
In other Sunday fixtures, defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz will be away to Solian City with Kenya Police facing their top tier counterparts Posta Rangers at the Police Sacco Stadium where FC Talanta will also host Bungoma Stars.
Troubled Shabana FC will be looking for redemption when they play Shalimar in Naivasha, Sofapaka against Silibwet with SS Assad visiting Bomachoge Borabu – Kisii.
The qualifying teams will proceed to the round of 16 which is set for March 30 and 31, with the Champions scooping the sole ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.
