Following its successful launch in 2023, TikTok has announced the expansion of its “Add to Music App” feature to users in 163 new countries, including 41 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa such as Kenya and Nigeria.

The “Add to Music App” feature allows music enthusiasts to save the songs they discover on TikTok directly to their preferred music streaming services, subject to availability.

This feature aims to help users capture the songs they love in the moment of discovery and easily access them on their chosen music streaming platform for future enjoyment.

Appearing as a button labeled “Add Song” next to a track name at the bottom of a TikTok video in the For You Feed, the feature invites users to save the song to the music streaming service of their choice.

Upon pressing the “Add Song” button for the first time, users can select their preferred music streaming service.

Once selected, the track is saved to a default playlist in the chosen music streaming service. Users also have the option to add the track to a new or existing playlist of their choice.

Additionally, following the initial use of the “Add to Music App” feature, the selected music streaming service becomes the default option for future track saves.

However, users retain the flexibility to change their default music streaming service at any time through settings.

Isaac Bess, Global Head of Distribution Partnerships at TikTok, expressed excitement about the new feature, stating:

“With Add to Music App, we are streamlining the music discovery experience for both TikTok users and artists.

Music fans are embracing the opportunity to save music from TikTok directly to their favorite music streaming services, driving music discovery and helping more tracks to break through and become hits.”

Bess added, “We are really excited to be bringing the feature to millions more music fans around the world, providing even more opportunities for music discovery and consumption, and for artists to reach new audiences and grow their careers.”

The feature will provide artists a greater visibility and opportunities for growth in the digital landscape.
