Police are investigating the death of a woman whose decomposed body was found in a house in Athi River, Machakos county.

The woman had died at an unknown time and day in the Bondeni area, police said.

Her body was discovered by neighbours who said the stench that had been emanating from her house was disturbing.

Police were Tuesday called and broke into the house and found the body lying on the floor with no visible injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

The cause of the death is yet to be known. Her identity was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, a family drove the body of their loved one to the Muthangari police station after he died in a house in Kawangware.

Police confirmed that Jennifer Nafula, 28 died in the house.

The body had a swollen right leg toe though it did not have visible injuries, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Police say there has been a spike in cases of sudden deaths in the city.

And in the Pangani area, the body of one Joseph Kithinji Thuranira, 58 was found inside his rented house.

Police said the deceased body was found seated in the toilet. The body sagged and was leaning on the wall and a basin with bloodstains on the right thigh.

The officers said the body was moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home(formerly City Mortuary) awaiting postmortem as they investigate the incident.

Police say they are recording a spike in cases of sudden deaths.

They are investigating the cases but they have not established if they have a similar pattern.

Up to three cases are reported daily in the city alone. Some are found to be old cases where bodies rot in houses.

Some are pending under probe while others have been solved, police say.
