Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili has warned a section of residents, bars and liquor business owners threatening the lives of the Chiefs who are dedicated to fighting illegal alcoholic businesses in the county.

Referring to the chiefs who were assaulted in Nandi in Kamelil and Chepsire locations, the Commissioner said it was wrong for goons to attack the chiefs during illicit brews crackdown, insisting that the attackers will face the full force of the law.

“It has come to our attention that our chiefs are being harassed and assaulted while in operations. Let me be clear that we are not going to relent in this fight. Those threatening and attacking our administrators will face it rough,” Madam Nzwili affirmed.

Commissioner Nzwili while speaking in Tinderet sub-county in Nandi said the government directive on the fight against illicit brew was paramount and nothing will change until the entire menace is cleared in the county.

“It takes heart for these chiefs who continue fighting alcohol. As residents, we need to support them fully. Some few goons here think they are above the law. My friend try to attack my chief again and you will face the music,” she added.

Nzwili highlighted that the chiefs had no personal interest and thus they were fighting to save the community from the illicit brews menace.

“This nonsense will stop. We have declared total wars on illicit brews. It is high time you change the business or be in jail,” Commisioner Nzwili noted.

Nzwili’s sentiments were echoed by Nandi County Police Commander Dikens Njogu who said that the illicit cartels were dangerous people, adding that it was becoming a risky task for the community and Chiefs as they keep threatening them and their families.

He called for combined and committed efforts by all those involved in the operation saying it is the only way to make progress.

“Pombe lazima iishe ama sisi tuishe. This issue is making it difficult for our chiefs to arrest those cartels and that’s why it has become hard to end this menace. We are working with the higher authorities to ensure that our work is successful and give our chiefs maximum support.”

The police commander promised to follow up on the issue, urging chiefs to feel protected when carrying out their duties.
