AFC Leopards leadership Wednesday said all systems were set ahead of the Sunday’s fun-filled 60th anniversary celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.
The event’s chairman Vincent Shimoli revealed they will conduct a fundraising dubbed ‘Ingwe Dinner’ on Friday at a city hotel to help fine tune the gala with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja the fundraiser’s main guest.
Shimoli added that the celebrations’ climax would be preceded by inter-branches fans’ tournament finals at Camp Toyoyo on Saturday.
Thereafter there will be a special ‘Ingwe Night’ at Nyayo Stadium where the fans will get an opportunity to feast and celebrate the club’s achievements as they dance to invited local artists’ tunes.
A friendly match pitting AFC Leopards legends against their Gor Mahia counterparts will serve as a curtain-raiser for the Sunday’s activities that also include an encounter between select AFC Leopards team and AE Ramassa, a fourth-tier Spanish side.
“We welcome all football stakeholders to throng Nyayo Stadium. We also want to show the government that we can fill the stadium and that football is a big sport in the country.
“I played for both Leopards and Gor Mahia but I will lean towards Ingwe when the two teams’ legends play as part of our celebrations,” said Shikanda, who is the AFC Leopards chairman.
The club’s patron Alexander Muteshi said they were proud of the club’s achievements even as he agreed there was a need for a change to turnaround their fortunes after over two decade without the league title.
Leopards boasts 12 league titles, 10 FKF Cups and five CECAFA Club Championship crowns.
“As a club, we are happy to mark our 60th anniversary which is a great milestone and we look forward to a very successful event on Sunday.”
The club officially turned 60 on March 12 and they marked their birthday in a unique way, visiting the home of the founding father Mutoka in Shauri Moyo Estate, Nairobi.
The club also visited different Children’s homes to participate in CSR activities.
