Winfridah Boyani Mokaya will on Monday be sworn-in as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

The communication on Sunday from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) comes a day after the gazettement of Mokaya’s appointment.

“Hon Winfridah B. Mokaya will be sworn in as the chief Registrar of the Judiciary tomorrow March 25, 2024, 10am at the Supreme Court building,” the statement said.

Chief Justice Martha Koome will preside over the ceremony.

Koome on Sunday gazetted Mokaya’s appointment  as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

The gazette notice dated March 19, 2024, was issued same day Mokaya was appointed by the Judicial Service Commission to serve as Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on a five-year term.

“In exercise of powers conferred by Article 172 (1) (c), of the Constitution of Kenya, the Judicial Service Commission appoints Winfridah Boyani Mokaya to be the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a period of five years with effect from March 18, 2024,” the notice reads.

Mokaya beat six other candidates who had been shortlisted for the position.

While confirming her appointment on Tuesday, Koome congratulated her and thanked the other six candidates who made the cut after interviews.

“The Commission shortlisted seven candidates who were interviewed on Monday, March 18, 2024. Following deliberation and careful consideration of the candidates based on merit, performance and suitability for the position, the JSC has appointed Hon Mokaya Frida Boyani as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a five-year term,” Koome said in a statement.

Mokaya succeeds Anne Amadi who left two months ago after 10 years of service.

She will also serve as the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission as well as Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice.

Mokaya has over 27 years experience in the legal profession.
