Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino has sought the removal of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

Through a notice of motion to the Clerk of the National Assembly Mr Samuel Njoroge, the youthful lawmaker raised two grounds that the CS should be impeached on.

“I will be moving this motion and seek the resolution of the House to require His Excellency the President to dismiss the Cabinet Secretary from office. I have attached necessary evidence in support of the allegations,” his notice reads.

These includes gross violations of Article 26(1), and 43(1)(a) of the constitution, and the incompetence in office.

According to his notice, the vocal Owino stated that due to the ongoing strike, majority of Kenya’s right to life as well as right to the highest attainable standard of health has been grossly violated.

He said that since doctors commenced their industrial strike on March 15, a number of Kenyans have been unable to access medical care, and that some have lost their lives.

“The CS has exhibited incompetence in that she failed to avert the doctor’s strike which has now entered its third week. The CS has failed to honour the doctors’ Bargaining Collective Agreement and has instead taken a hard line and is instead threatening the striking doctors with immediate sacking and replacement,” part of notice reads.

Also, the vibrant MP has stated that the CVS has failed to note the dire situation that has been caused by the doctors’ strike.

Earlier during the day in a press address to the media, the MP said that he has received support of around 111 MPs who are willing to support his motion.

“This will be the greatest impeachment ever because of the arrogance, the ignorance of the Cabinet Secretary for Health.”

He also criticized the President for his official visit to Ghana when the lives of Kenyans are in balance due to the strike.

“The Health Ministry is sick, the country is sick. And therefore, as a result of that, we have come up with an impeachment motion.”

The motion is expected to be tabled before the National Assembly on Tuesday next week.

This comes even as the government released Sh2 billion which will be used to absorb the doctors who are still in attachment.
