The final journey of June Chebet Moi, daughter of the late President Daniel Toritich Moi, will be laid to rest in Bahati, Nakuru County on Thursday, April 18.
The family said in a statement that June will be buried at the family farm,
June was announced dead on Thursday, April 11 at the age of 60 by the family, who said she died peacefully.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 14, at the family’s home in Kabarnet Gardens, Ngong Road.
Kanu leader Gideon Moi described June as a lovely person, and said the Moi family was coming to terms with her death.
“June was a joyful soul; full of life and outgoing. We celebrate the moments we shared as a family and continue to honour her memory. We commend her soul to the Lord and pray that she rests in eternal peace,” he said.
Gideon continued: “We know that our sister is in a better place. She is at home, she is with her family and she is with her maker. We are condoling with her,” Moi said.
June was remembered as a person who lived a quiet life despite growing up in a political environment.
She was described as a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Paula Susanne Jepkemboi.
“June was the loving daughter of His Excellency the late Daniel Toroitich Moi, C.G.H. and the late Lena Tungo Moi. Loving sister to Jennifer Moi Kositany; the late Jonathan Moi, Raymond Kipruto Moi, John Mark Moi, Phillip Moi, Doris Jepkorir Moi and Gideon Kipsiele Moi. Sister-in-law to Sylvia Moi, Kipruto Moi, Eunice Moi and Zahra Moi.
June was niece to the Bomet’s of Eldama Ravine. She was also aunty to Brian Kiprop, Clint Kiprono, Barbara Jebet, Leroy, Wayne, Lentai, KK, Cherobon, Hosea, Andrew, Limo, Lena, Talissa, Kibet, Allan, Dante, Laila Denise, Edward Biwott, Kimoi, Kigen and Lulu Moi.
President William Ruto also sent his condolences to the family.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President Daniel arap Moi on the loss of June Chebet Moi. May God give you strength at this difficult time. Rest in peace, June,” Ruto said in a message posted on his X platform.
June’s passing comes after the family held a funeral in 2020 for Moi’s elder son Jonathan Moi, who died of pancreatic cancer.
Several people, including politicians, are expected to attend the event.
