Five teenagers are currently hospitalized following a lightning strike on the house they were seeking shelter in during heavy rains in Karandit village, Kuresoi South, Nakuru County. According to Emily Cheruiot, the mother of the victims, she had warned one of the teenagers to put down his phone due to the potential dangers of lightning strikes.

“Lightning struck at 6.30pm following heavy rains and it struck the youths whom we were together in the same room. When it struck,  all of them fell to the ground and started crawling using their stomach,” said Cheruiot who escaped unharmed.

James Langat, one of the residents, said the victims were immediately rushed for medical treatment at Keringet Nursing Home and Olenguruone sub-county hospitals.

Medics at the facilities have confirmed that the teenagers are in stable condition.
