A landslide struck Kimende, Kiambu County, on Tuesday evening, with several people still missing according to the Kenya Red Cross. The incident occurred around 9 pm, trapping a number of individuals. Although there have been no confirmed fatalities, the whereabouts of several people remain unknown.

In response, the affected area has been designated as a danger zone, and collaborative efforts between the government and the Kenya Red Cross are underway to locate the missing individuals.

This incident coincides with the Kenya Meteorological Department’s prediction of heavy rainfall in the Central Highlands, western, and Rift Valley regions from May 14 to May 20. The weekly weather forecast issued by the Kenya Met warns of extremely high rainfall levels in specific areas of the Central region, raising the risk of mudslides and landslides in susceptible areas.
