The situation in Isiolo has taken a turn for the worse as the River Ewaso Nyiro burst its banks, displacing hundreds of households in Merti North and South.

The Kenya Red Cross reported that 708 households have been affected, resulting in widespread destruction to nearby schools, businesses, and essential health and sanitation facilities.

In response to the crisis, the Kenya Red Cross has initiated efforts to register affected families and provide emergency shelter and other essential items. However, the scale of the disaster is significant, and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration provided an update on the broader impact of the ongoing floods across the country.

According to the ministry, the death toll has risen to 291, with 75 individuals still missing and 188 others sustaining injuries. The heavy rains have affected over 412,763 people, prompting the government to establish 187 camps across 25 counties to provide assistance and support to those affected by the floods.
