Unable to reach the exact location due to flooding and other environmental challenges, the police team spent the night near the site. The next day, they managed to retrieve the body of the unidentified adult male, who was around 60 years old, from where it was stuck on a tree branch downstream. Since their official vehicle couldn’t reach the area, the officers ingeniously used a motorcycle to transport the body to the mortuary, riding for at least 3 kilometers to reach the location where their vehicle was parked.

“A night vigil was mounted and the body of unknown African male adult aged about 60 yrs was retrieved [on] 09/05/24 at 0940 hrs after the floods subsided,” a report filed at Kapenguria Police Station reads in part.

The body was later transferred to the Kapenguria County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaited identification and a postmortem examination. The two police officers received praise from the National Police Service Spokesperson, Dr. Resla Onyango, who commended their dedication to serving the Kenyan people.
