Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna has shared his recovery journey after sustaining a minor leg injury.

The fiery attorney left tongues wagging on Friday evening when he shared a photo of him in a leg cast boot and crutches beside him.

But despite the obvious evidence of injury, Miguna still managed to wear a smile and flash a thumbs-up to the camera.

“Recovering from a fractured left foot. Thanks to all my orthopaedic surgeon, friends and compatriots,” he said while uploading the photo.

Questions then abounded as to what might have transpired for the lawyer to get injured.

He then revealed he was involved in an accident that injured his tibia thrice.

While acknowledging the quick recovery messages from Kenyans of goodwill, Miguna also revealed that he had settled for a leg cast to help with the healing, further explaining the need for the boot.

“Thanks to everyone who has wished me a quick recovery. I’m unable to identify everyone by name. For those asking what happened: I had an accident and fractured my tibia three times,” he said.

“The cast is to help with the healing, however, since one cannot fly in a cast (due to fluctuating cabin pressure), I’ll need the boot.”

Miguna’s decision to explain the need for both the leg cast and boot was probably informed by criticism he received from a Dr. Francis, a Europe-based surgeon who questioned the need for both.

“I’m not sure about your orthopaedic, Sir, but it’s either cast or the boot. You couldn’t have both together! Except if you’re faking the whole thing!” Dr. Francis commented.

Quickly, Miguna shot back, saying, “I had the boot before the cast. And I’ll need the boot to fly later. You can’t fly on a cast. Think!”

The controversial lawyer, who is currently in Kenya, has recently kept up his criticism of the William Ruto administration, especially calling out the harsh tax proposals contained in the Finance Bill 2024.

In a statement via X on Wednesday, May 15, Miguna said Kenyans are overtaxed and exploited by the government.

The vocal lawyer claimed taxes collected by the government are stolen and misused by some government officials and politicians.

“This is a reckless statement and plan, President William Ruto. Kenyans are over-taxed, repressed, exploited, and abused. The high taxes Kenyans pay are stolen, misused, diverted, and wasted by a few politicians,” said Miguna.

He added, “You can’t compare the 13% goods and services tax, in Canada, for example, which is utilized to provide universal quality healthcare, education, housing, 1st class highways, roads, sewer systems and a million other public services to residents, with the state of collapse in Kenya.”

Miguna pointed out that there was no need to increase Kenya’s tax rate to 22 per cent when Kenyans don’t receive the value of the taxes they pay.

He further asked President Ruto to respect Kenyans and stop the plan to increase the country’s tax rate.

“President William Ruto, please show some respect to the suffering Kenyans who gave you an opportunity to be president. Stop adding sulphuric acid to our injuries,” Miguna stated.
