Detectives are currently investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man outside a lounge in Kiambu town on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Anthony Njomo Kiunu, was employed as an electrician for the US Embassy in Nairobi, according to the police.

As of the time of publishing this story, the embassy has not yet issued a comment on the shooting. However, embassy officials have been notified about the incident. An official from the embassy stated that they were informed that Kiunu was a bystander who tragically succumbed to a fatal bullet during the incident.

“He was just a bystander when he was shot fatally in an altercation that started in the club,” said an official aware of the incident.

The embassy official stated that, for now, they do not believe that Anthony Njomo Kiunu was specifically targeted in the shooting. However, the motive behind the altercation that led to the shooting has yet to be disclosed.

According to the police, the suspect responsible for the shooting was apprehended shortly after the incident occurred. The nightclub’s proprietor reported the shooting incident on the premises around 3 am.

Kiunu tragically lost his life after being shot in the back during a disturbance that originated inside the bar and spilled outside.

Kiambu police commander Michael Muchiri confirmed that law enforcement officers were alerted to the scene promptly after the shooting and began processing the area for evidence.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities will likely seek to uncover more details surrounding the events leading up to the tragic incident.

“We are pursuing the matter to the end and will take necessary action. Unfortunately, a life was lost,” he said.

The management of the club clarified that the shooting incident took place outside the premises and was captured by surveillance cameras facing the road. However, it remains uncertain whether the individual responsible for the shooting is licensed to carry a firearm.

According to the club’s management, the victim of the shooting was not involved in the initial altercation that occurred inside the establishment. Police investigations revealed that the victim was shot in the back and had an exit wound on his chest.

Following the incident, the deceased’s body was transported to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits autopsy.

As part of the ongoing probe into the shooting, law enforcement officers confiscated the firearm involved for ballistic tests. Authorities have been making efforts to regulate the use of privately owned firearms, as there are approximately 11,000 licensed gun holders in the region.
