According to a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, May 26, 2024, the hunt followed a tip-off from members of the public.

DCI said the Anti-Narcotics detectives augmented by their Transnational Organized Crimes Unit counterparts raided the two-bedroom house of the suspect, Geoffrey Thiranira where they discovered a loaded AK47 rifle and a bale of bhang hidden in a chimney.

The detectives noted that the rifle had a magazine of 20 live rounds during the discovery.

“Detectives are pursuing a 29-year-old suspected violent robber and drug trafficker in whose house at Murunya area of Mutuati, Meru County was found a loaded AK47 rifle and a bale of bhang hidden at a chimney.

The latest comes days after detectives arrested two suspects and recovered three bales of bhang in Busia.

In an update shared on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the DCI stated that the suspects, Ferdinand Wanjero, 29 and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, were arrested after a tip-off from members of the public.

“Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Busia have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized three bales of bhang stashed in backpacks believed to have been destined for the capital, Nairobi,” the DCI said.

“Ferdinand Wanjero, 29, and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, were arrested following information from members of the public that two men were spotted at the bustling Busia bus station, preparing to board a Climax bus bound for Nairobi, carrying suspected narcotics in their bags.”

The investigative agency noted that they swiftly responded and searched the backpacks belonging to the suspects where they discovered 12 kilograms of bhang worth Ksh360,000.

“Anti-narcotics officers responded swiftly and managed to arrest the two, and upon thorough search discovered the 12kg of cannabis sativa with an approximate street value of Sh360,000. Legal processes have been initiated against the duo,” DCI added.
