UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has criticized Cabinet Secretaries Moses Kuria (Public Service) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport) for their involvement in political activities.

Malala emphasized that holders of such offices are mandated by law to remain apolitical and should strive to maintain this neutrality.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Malala pointed out that it has come to his attention that certain Cabinet Secretaries have been participating in political activities, which is in violation of their legal obligation to remain impartial.

He stressed that if Cabinet Secretaries wish to actively engage in politics, they should resign from their public offices.

Malala reiterated the importance of Cabinet Secretaries focusing on serving the people of Kenya at all times, highlighting that their primary responsibility should be to prioritize the needs of the citizens over political agendas.

“Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender, and Affirmative Action, your primary responsibility is to serve the people within your docket. Should you wish to engage in politics, you are welcome to resign and join the political arena.

“Similarly, Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, your focus should be on addressing the pressing issues in your ministry, particularly the reclamation of roads damaged by recent floods. Serve the Kenyan people or step down from your position and return to politics,” Malala said.

Malala, speaking after his return to the country from China, expressed deep concern about the conduct of leaders within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), noting that they have displayed disrespect towards the leadership of the ruling party.

This concern arises amidst reports of division within the Rift Valley over support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Murkomen, alongside other Cabinet Secretaries, accompanied the Deputy President to Uasin Gishu over the weekend to rally support for Gachagua, particularly during a fundraiser held in Kesses.

However, Cabinet Secretary Kuria has openly defied the Deputy President, frequently expressing disagreement with him on social media. Despite this, Kuria maintains that Gachagua remains his boss and a close friend.
