In Narok County, a group of residents has come together to rebuild a bridge that was destroyed by floods.

Locals in Naaisuya and Olorroito informed Citizen Digital that heavy rains had washed away the bridge. The temporary structure now links the two areas to Narok town.

Residents decided to implement this short-term solution while awaiting government construction of a permanent bridge.

“Members contributed Ksh.500 each towards this initiative,” stated one resident. Officials from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERA), led by Emmanuel Kipruto, pledged to assist locals in ensuring their safety while using the bridge once it is completed.

In January, the Narok County Department of Disaster Management issued a high alert to residents due to heavy floods caused by rainfall in the upper parts of Narok North.

In a communique, residents were advised to exercise caution, stay informed of local weather reports, and heed official announcements. Those living in low-lying or flood-prone areas were urged to consider temporarily relocating to higher ground to avoid potential danger.
