Police in Voi have arrested a suspected drug trafficker while ferrying 327 kilograms of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh.9.8 million to Mombasa from Nairobi.

The 45-year old Patrick Odoyo Jabuya was nabbed on Wednesday after his vehicle, a Toyota Prado was intercepted at Ikanga area of Voi, by multi-agency teams drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Police Service.

DCI in a statement on Thursday revealed that the sleuths who were acting on a tip-off from the public erected a roadblock and flagged down the said vehicle where after conducting a search, the narcotic drug was found stashed in gunny bags.

“Acting on a tip-off, the joint team of DCI and KPS officers erected a roadblock at Ikanga area of Voi, flagging down the 45-year-old driver while on frantic efforts to turn about and escape,” read the statement.

“Upon search, 11 gunny bags containing bhang and 963 big rolls of the same unholy herb were found, alongside two extra sets of number plates (KCU 888F & KCV 489R).”

The suspect was immediately arrested while the vehicle and the cargo were seized moved to Voi Police Station.
