Tenants residing in an apartment complex in Kitengela were given a seven-day notice to vacate the premises by Kajiado County Health Officials due to serious health concerns.
The officials, citing an observed issue of sewage drainage onto a public road, deemed the situation hazardous to the health of other residents in the vicinity.
The tenants received the surprising directive from county health authorities, who emphasized the urgency of the matter by instructing them to find alternative accommodations until the sewage drainage problem is resolved.
The affected building, situated along Deliverance Road, reportedly comprises around 50 rental units, ranging from one to two-bedroom apartments.
Concerns over the sewage drainage issue had been previously raised by residents in the area, particularly families with young children, who feared potential disease outbreaks due to the unsanitary conditions.
Despite numerous appeals to the building owner to address the problem, the situation persisted, prompting the intervention of health officials.
The sewage overflow from the building not only posed health risks but also disrupted the normal use of the road by other residents, including motorists, school children, and individuals accessing nearby hospital facilities.
