Residents of Kapcherop in Marakwet West are in shock following a tragic incident where a Border Patrol Unit officer fatally shot two Kenya Forest Rangers and injured a third before taking his own life.

The incident occurred at around 2 AM at the Cherangany Forest Station. The officer, who was stationed in Turkana County, accessed the forest station and carried out the shootings.

One local resident reported, “The third KFS officer was shot and injured and is recuperating in hospital.” After the attack, the officer turned the gun on himself, resulting in a fatal self-inflicted wound to the chin.

This shocking event has left the community reeling as they try to understand the motivations behind the officer’s actions and cope with the loss and trauma inflicted on their community.
