Kylian Mbappe has signed a five-year contract to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain, as announced by the Spanish club on Monday. This signing marks the successful conclusion of Real Madrid’s long-term pursuit of one of the world’s most prolific forwards.

In a statement, Real Madrid confirmed the agreement: “Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the player to be at Real Madrid for the next five seasons.” Mbappe, 25, also expressed his excitement about the move on social media, calling it “a dream come true.”

The transfer represents a significant milestone for both Mbappe and Real Madrid, as the club has been eager to add the French star to their roster to bolster their attacking options.

“So happy and proud to join the club of my dream @realmadrid. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support,” Mbappe added.

Kylian Mbappe will earn 35 million euros ($38 million) per season at Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain. The French forward had verbally agreed to join Real Madrid in February and announced in May his intention to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season.

Real Madrid confirmed the deal on Monday, fresh off their 15th Champions League victory, a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund. This announcement comes just before Mbappe is set to participate in pre-Euro 2024 friendlies for France.

Mbappe, a World Cup winner in 2018 at the age of 19, has been a key player for PSG, scoring a club record 256 goals since joining the team from Monaco on an initial loan in 2017.

He later moved to PSG in a 180-million-euro ($195 million) deal at the age of 18. During his time at PSG, he helped the club secure six Ligue 1 titles and reach the 2020 Champions League final, where they lost to Bayern Munich.

Despite scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina, Mbappe’s France finished as runners-up, losing on penalties to Lionel Messi’s Argentina. At PSG, Mbappe played alongside Neymar and Messi, forming a star-studded team that aimed to win the Champions League but ultimately fell short.

Mbappe’s significance extends beyond football, as evidenced by President Emmanuel Macron’s intervention to persuade him to stay at PSG in June 2022 when a move to Real Madrid seemed imminent.

At Real Madrid, Mbappe will join a formidable attacking lineup that includes Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr and English midfielder Jude Bellingham. This move not only bolsters Real Madrid’s squad but also solidifies Mbappe’s status as one of the most prominent figures in world football.
