The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) veterinary team has conducted a second round of treatment on a wounded lion in the Mara Conservancy. The lion, known as Lorkulup, which means majestic lion, sustained injuries from a suspected snake bite approximately two weeks ago.

“The lion was observed with a swollen upper lip and mildly infected lower lip with sloughed-off tissue,” KWS said.
“He was given thorough wound cleaning, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medication.”
“Despite the injuries, Lorkulup is in good condition and our dedicated team will continue to monitor his progress.”

During the initial treatment, the lion exhibited signs of distress, with swelling in the head region affecting its ability to breathe. The KWS Mara veterinary team utilized a dart gun to administer anti-inflammatory medication to alleviate the lion’s discomfort.

Following the treatment, Lorkulup experienced relief as the swelling subsided, allowing for easier breathing. The lion was subsequently reunited with its brother, indicating positive progress in its recovery.

KWS emphasized its unwavering dedication to the welfare of Kenya’s wildlife, ensuring prompt and effective care for animals in need.
