President William Ruto arrived in Apulia, Italy on Friday to attend the G7 2024 summit. This three-day event brings together leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Ruto is scheduled to hold talks with Pope Francis on the sidelines of the summit, where he will participate in discussions on new technology.

Pope Francis, who will address the G7 summit and meet with leaders from the United States, Ukraine, France, and India, among others, is the first pope to participate in G7 discussions.

At the summit, Ruto will speak on African leaders’ commitment to fostering a prosperous world through a fairer international financial system and the importance of collectively addressing global challenges.

“At the G7 Summit, President Ruto will emphasise the importance of involving African countries in processes aimed at finding solutions to global challenges such as climate change and conflicts,” State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said.

President William Ruto will also highlight Africa’s potential for green industrialization, digital revolution, and innovation during his participation in the G7 summit.

He will outline AU reforms aimed at enhancing trade and development, peace and stability, and greater global participation.

On Sunday, Ruto will join other heads of state and government in Burgenstock, Switzerland, to discuss a common path towards peace in Ukraine.

He was invited to the Russia-Ukraine conflict summit following a meeting between the European Union delegation in Kenya and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

This summit aims to provide a platform for high-level discussions on global issues such as nuclear security, food security, freedom of navigation, and humanitarian issues.
