Judiciary officials convened at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday to honor their colleague, Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti. Kivuti was tragically shot on Thursday afternoon at the Makadara Law Courts following her ruling in a case involving a policeman’s wife.

Leading the gathering is Chief Justice Martha Koome, with Attorney General Justin Muturi also in attendance. The program for the day includes the arrival of judges, judicial officers, staff, CUC members, and stakeholders in the justice sector at 9:30 am, followed by the signing of a condolence book as guests arrive.

The national anthem will then be sung, followed by prayers led by Lady Justice Asenath Ongeri.

A moment of silence will be observed in honor of Kivuti, with a sermon led by Fr. Patrick Ndung’u and remarks from various stakeholders, including Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Jacinta Nyamosi, Zachary Mwangi from the Witness Protection Agency, and LSK Nairobi branch chairperson Eric Kivuva.

Additionally, Kenya Judiciary Staff Association (KJSA) deputy president Emily Kimani, Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) VP Rhoda Yator, and HoS Milimani Law Courts Lucas Onyina will address the gathering.

Principal Judges from various courts, including Employment & Labour Relations Court Justice Byram Ongaya, Environment & Land Court Justice Oscar Angote, and High Court Justice Eric Ogola, will also speak.

CJ Koome will conclude the remarks, followed by the lighting of candles, placing of flowers in memorial, and a closing prayer.

The National Mourning Day serves as a solemn occasion to celebrate the life and contributions of the magistrate.
