On Monday, Celine Dion reaffirmed her commitment to her craft, declaring that her passion as a performer remains undiminished despite ongoing health challenges.

Speaking ahead of the premiere of her documentary “I Am: Celine Dion,” which delves into her illustrious career and struggles with a rare neurological disorder, Dion emphasized her determination to confront life’s obstacles head-on.

She described her decision to candidly address her condition in the film as both a gift and a responsibility, hoping to inspire others facing similar challenges.

Despite the emotional journey of sharing her story, Dion expressed gratitude for the support of her family, medical team, and fans, acknowledging that her battle is ongoing but emphasizing her approach of taking it one day at a time.

– ‘Authentic’ –

Celine Dion revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder without a cure.

This diagnosis led her to cancel the remainder of her shows indefinitely. Despite treatment to alleviate symptoms such as stiff muscles and severe spasms, the condition can still affect her performances, sometimes causing her voice to crack uncontrollably.

However, Dion remains committed to her art, affirming that “the show will still go on.”

She emphasized the importance of honesty about the physical and emotional toll of her condition.

The documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” allowed Dion to share her story in her own words, a request she made to director Irene Taylor.

Taylor described Dion’s openness and authenticity throughout the filmmaking process, capturing both the superstar’s joy and her struggles. Through the documentary, Dion hopes to inspire others facing similar challenges and to provide a candid look into her life and career.

– ‘Love letter’ –

“I Am: Celine Dion” offers an intimate glimpse into the life of the iconic performer, blending archival footage with tender moments at home with her children and pets.

While the documentary doesn’t shy away from documenting the severity of Dion’s illness, including a harrowing sequence showing her suffering from a seizure, it primarily focuses on her love for her family, friends, and music.

Despite the challenges she faces due to her illness, Dion’s joy for life and her unyielding sense of humor shine through in the film.

The documentary, which will start streaming on Prime Video on June 25, provides a poignant look into Dion’s life and career.

Despite her limited public appearances since announcing her diagnosis, Dion recently surprised fans by presenting an award at the Grammy Awards earlier this year.

During a screening event in Manhattan, Dion compared herself to an apple tree, expressing her feelings of pressure to consistently deliver for her fans. However, a recent message from a fan reminded her that her value lies not just in her output, but in her essence as a person.

This touching revelation moved Dion to tears and serves as a powerful message of appreciation for her loyal supporters.

“This movie is my love letter to each of you,” she said to a standing ovation.
“And I hope to see you all again very soon.”
