The Kenya beach volleyball teams embarked on their journey to Tetouan, Morocco, yesterday, in preparation for the Africa Beach Volleyball games and Olympic qualifiers commencing today.
The teams traveled in two batches, with the first group consisting of Naomi Too and Brian Melly, accompanied by head of delegation Neddy Kilimo, departing in the morning.
Later in the evening, the second batch, including veterans Gaudencia Makokha and Edward Kibet, along with the technical bench, set off for the five-day continental event.
In the women’s category, Gaudencia Makokha will team up with Naomi Too, aiming to secure a second consecutive Olympic ticket after their silver medal win at the 2019 African Games and participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, the men’s duo of Brian Melly and Edward Kibet will be striving for their first Olympic Games qualification.
The victors in both genders at the Africa Beach Volleyball games will earn direct qualification slots for the Paris Olympic Games, scheduled for next month.
Notably, the teams underwent rigorous residential training at the Flamingo Beach Hotel in Mombasa, with four players initially called into the camp and subsequent selections made to finalize the squads.
