OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever announced on Wednesday the launch of a new artificial intelligence company named Safe Superintelligence.
This company is dedicated to creating a safe AI environment, aligning with the current focus of major tech companies aiming to dominate the generative AI sector.
Safe Superintelligence, an American firm with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, was introduced via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The post emphasized the company’s commitment to safety, security, and progress, insulated from short-term commercial pressures due to its singular focus and business model.
Joining Sutskever as co-founders are former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, co-founder of Cue and a former AI lead at Apple.
Sutskever’s departure from OpenAI in May followed his significant involvement in CEO Sam Altman’s controversial firing and rehiring in November of the previous year, which also led to Sutskever being removed from the company’s board after Altman’s return.
