Kitui South Member of Parliament Rachel Nyamai suggested during a Parliament debate on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, that the youth protests against Finance Bill 2024 in Nairobi are not genuinely motivated but rather orchestrated for the purpose of gaining attention on TikTok.

Nyamai shared this perspective after participating in the demonstrations, during which one of the students she supports expressed similar sentiments to her.

According to Nyamai, the student texted her to voice concerns about the Finance Bill, particularly regarding the proposed levies on food and motor vehicle circulation.

However, the MP pointed out that her sponsored student had no reason to continue protesting since these levies had been removed.
