‘We’ll get there,’ says Kane following England’s draw with Denmark

Harry Kane expressed confidence that England will find the right formula for success in Euro 2024 despite their underwhelming performance in Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Denmark.

Gareth Southgate’s team could have secured qualification to the last 16 as Group C winners with a victory over Denmark in Frankfurt.

England’s captain, Kane, provided a strong start with a clinical close-range finish from Kyle Walker’s deflected cross in the 18th minute.

However, their momentum faltered thereafter, and Denmark equalized in the 34th minute through Morten Hjulmand’s impressive 30-yard strike past Jordan Pickford.

The performance was not one that will intimidate England’s competitors, especially following their narrow 1-0 win against Serbia in their group opener last weekend. Despite this, Kane, who plays for Bayern Munich, remains convinced that England will eventually find their rhythm and perform at their best.

“I think we said before the tournament there’s no easy games and I think that’s showing,” he said.
“We’ve got levels we can reach and we can be better both with and without the ball.
“The sign of a good team is when you’re not playing at your best and still find a way to get results like we have in the last two games.”

England remains on track to reach the last 16 of Euro 2024, leading the group with four points ahead of their final match against Slovenia. Securing the top spot in the group is crucial for them to potentially face an easier opponent in the knockout stage.

Despite their position, former England players like Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand were harsh in their criticism of the team’s lackluster performance against Denmark.

Harry Kane acknowledged the doubts raised by such critiques but expressed confidence that England will overcome this period of scrutiny.

“We’re top of the group. We know we can improve. I know there will probably be loads of noise and a bit of disappointment back home.
“We experienced this in the last Euros as well when we drew to Scotland. Step by step, we’ll get there.”
