Residents of Makima in Mwea, Kirinyaga County are still searching for the body of a fisherman who drowned in River Thiba on Friday.

The man was in the company of two other fishermen when their boat was hit by a hippopotamus at around 5:30 a.m.

The two however survived the incident.

“I remained in the boat as two of my colleagues jumped into the river. One held onto nearby tree roots and I managed to rescue him,” said Alex Mungai.

He said they saw the missing man being swept away by raging waters.

He appealed for help from authorities in finding the fisherman’s body as their efforts to find it entered the third day on Sunday.
