A countrywide protest against the controversial Finance Bill 2024 is set to take place today.

The youth-led demonstrations dubbed a ‘Total Shutdown’ are expected to bring business to a standstill not only in Nairobi but also in various cities across the country.

Contingents of heavily-armed anti-riot police have been deployed at various parts of the Nairobi CBD, the epicentre of the protests.

On Monday, the government warned Kenyans who are planning to protest on Tuesday against any form of violence and destruction of property.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, while acknowledging that every Kenyan has a right to demonstrate or picket, insisted that protestors must not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.
