A multi-agency security team comprising various police units has been deployed across Nairobi in anticipation of the youth-led protests scheduled for Thursday. The demonstrators, expressing their anger and dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s government, plan to stage a daring march to State House as the climax of a seven-day protest.
Following the deadly rallies on Tuesday, when protesters invaded Parliament in opposition to the Finance Bill 2024, security forces are determined to prevent any attempts to access State House.
Elite security teams have sealed off all roads leading to and connecting with State House, diverting motorists to alternative routes. Heavily armed officers have been strategically placed near State House, prohibiting anyone from approaching the entrances. Military security equipment has also been deployed to barricade the surrounding roads.
Despite President Ruto’s concession to withdraw the contentious bill, protesters have vowed to continue their rallies, expressing a vote of no confidence in the Kenya Kwanza government. The plan to march to State House has sparked mixed opinions, with some voicing fears of potential loss of lives and labeling such an act as treasonous.
