Kenyans online have advanced their efforts to hold politicians accountable, evolving from youthful protests against tax hikes to a broader anti-government movement. Despite President William Ruto withdrawing the Finance Bill 2024, citizens view this as only the first step in reclaiming power.

Now, leveraging technology, the youth are intensifying their campaign. A Kenyan known as BenwithSon on X has developed an AI platform that details past corruption scandals involving politicians and government officials.

By querying a politician’s name, the platform lists corruption scandals chronologically, provides case details, outcomes, and indicates whether the politician was prosecuted or cleared. It also cites sources and invites users to identify any missing information for accuracy.

This initiative follows other AI-driven tools by Kenyans: Kelvin Onkundi’s Finance Bill GPT, which explained the contentious Bill’s complex clauses, and Marion Kavengi’s SHIF GPT, which broke down the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) replacing the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). These tools exemplify how Kenyans are harnessing Artificial Intelligence to demystify government policies and proposed regulations.
