Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has vowed to continue her advocacy for supporting boys in Kenya, despite the government’s decision to cut the budget for her office.

Speaking during a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, she emphasized that the budget withdrawal will not hinder her efforts to pursue reforms for boys, noting that her mission began well before she gained prominence.

“The nation has said that they do not want the second lady to have any budget and it is okay but I will not stop working with the boychild. That is a passion and a vision I have for the boychild,” she said.

“I cannot stop because I even started before I was in the office and I believe that you and I can be able to make it.”

She also encouraged the church to support and rehabilitate drug addicts, aiding them in becoming valuable members of society. President William Ruto announced on Friday a series of austerity measures across government agencies to align the country’s budgetary spending with the impact of the Finance Bill, 2024 being withdrawn.

Among these measures, Ruto stated that the offices of the First Lady, the Second Lady, and the spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary would be abolished.

“Similarly, budget provisions for confidential budgets in various Executive offices including my own office have been removed, and the budget for the renovations across government reduced by 50 per cent,” Ruto said.

Pastor Dorcas has been at the forefront of championing for creating reforms for the Kenyan male child, especially those consuming illicit liquor and using hard drugs.
She has highlighted the plight of the Kenyan boychild, arguing that they should be equipped with appropriate tools to be the leaders in society.
