A 60-year-old man was killed by a mob after allegedly stabbing his 55-year-old wife to death in Nyalula village, Siaya County. Bernard Odweso reportedly attacked and fatally wounded his wife, Pamela Anyango, on Sunday afternoon following a dispute over Ksh.30.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that Samuel Ouma, a relative of the deceased, informed the Siaya Police Station about the incident. Officers, including the Officer in Charge, promptly responded to the scene, where they discovered that Odweso had a disagreement with his wife and their 22-year-old daughter, Vida Odweso, over money intended for church offering.
According to Kimaiyo, Odweso was suspected of taking the money from the house and became agitated, leading to the fatal stabbing of his wife. Their 24-year-old son, Dickens Odweso, intervened upon hearing the commotion and encountered his father armed with an iron rod and a knife outside the home. The father then attacked his son, injuring him on the neck and left leg.
Upon hearing about the incident, members of the public and neighbors apprehended Odweso and subjected him to mob violence, resulting in severe head injuries. He was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Kimaiyo stated that both crime scenes have been processed, and Pamela Anyango’s body has been transferred to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
