Vincent Chepkwony, the security guard who courageously shielded members of the public during recent protests at Java House on Kimathi Street, has been reinstated to his position.
He has also been honored with the highest recognition for a private security officer in Kenya by the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA).
Chepkwony’s dismissal by Hatari Security sparked widespread public concern and condemnation, leading the PSRA to intervene. In a press release, the authority commended Chepkwony for his exemplary actions during the protests, where he demonstrated exceptional bravery and selfless patriotism by protecting individuals from harm.
The PSRA conducted a thorough review and concluded that Chepkwony’s conduct was heroic and commendable, warranting not dismissal but recognition and praise.
As a result of PSRA’s intervention, Hatari Security Limited was instructed to reinstate Chepkwony immediately. Additionally, in a separate letter, PSRA acknowledged Chepkwony’s dedication and significant contributions to the private security industry in Kenya.
“This commendation is in recognition of your remarkable dedication and service in the private security industry in the country. Your unwavering commitment, exceptional professionalism, and strict compliance with legal standards have been instrumental in promoting the development of the Private Security Industry in Kenya,” the letter stated.
The recognition underscores the crucial role played by private security officers in upholding peace and safety nationwide, underscoring the importance of ongoing support and recognition. Following the public acknowledgment of Vincent’s heroic actions, Kenyans expressed their admiration, with many spontaneously offering financial contributions. These donations amounted to over Sh100,000, a sum exceeding Vincent’s monthly salary by tenfold.
