A man who had been sought by detectives for allegedly sexually assaulting a second-grade girl and then disposing of her body in River Gakungu has turned himself in to the police.
Ndia Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei reported that the suspect voluntarily presented himself at Baricho Police Station, where he identified himself as the individual accused of the 7-year-old’s killing. Following the incident last Thursday, he had gone into hiding out of fear for his life upon learning that residents of Baricho intended to harm him.
“The suspect is currently in custody at Baricho Police Station while detectives continue their investigation. We will seek court permission to detain him further as the investigation progresses,” said Koskei.
Alice Karuana Muriithi, the mother of the victim, reported that her daughter went missing on Thursday and was later found tied with banana fibers in River Gakungu on Friday. According to Karuana, her daughter had gone to Baricho shopping center in the company of her cousin before disappearing.
The suspect is reportedly involved in selling cannabis and has allegedly previously assaulted his own mother.
