Comedian Eric Omondi has denied claims that his younger comic brother Fred Omondi may have been murdered.
Fred was laid to rest at his family home in Sega, Siaya County two weekends ago, exactly two weeks after he died in a gruesome road accident in Nairobi.
His death was followed by a whirlwind of rumours with claims of foul play leading to his death.
However, 40-year-old Eric has now cleared the air, stating that his brother died from the impact of the accident when the boda boda he was travelling in collided with a PSV bus.
“When the accident happened and Fred was rushed to the hospital by good Samaritans, it was easier to identify him because he is a celebrity. His boda boda driver was also rushed to the hospital, but those who took him there abandoned him and disappeared. His body was registered as unidentified body because there was not a single piece of identification or even a phone,” Eric explained.
According to Eric, this led to speculation because by the time Fred’s body was picked up from the scene of the accident, that of the boda boda man was already missing.
“This is what led to the rumours because the boda boda guy, whose name is Mutiso, was missing when Fred was found, which led to a lot of theories. But like Fred, Mutiso died on the spot from the impact of the accident. His family couldn’t find him for three days because his body was registered as a missing person. So it wasn’t really a foul play; it was an unfortunate accident that took my brother’s life,” says Eric.
Mutiso was buried two days before Fred in his village in Machakos.
