The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) urged the youth in the country to refrain from planned anti-government demonstrations for the sake of maintaining peace.
Speaking in Mombasa, the clerics also called for a comprehensive review of governors’ lifestyles, alleging excessive living. CIPK’s Organising Secretary Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa highlighted that President William Ruto has already addressed the demands of Generation Z by dismissing his entire Cabinet, in response to persistent calls for improved governance and the full implementation of the 2010 Kenya Constitution.
“The country has been in crisis for the past few weeks. The Gen-Z’s call for change has forced the president to make tough decisions, including withdrawing the Finance Bill and dissolving the cabinet,” said Sheikh Khalifa.
While acknowledging the ongoing push for further protests, Khalifa urged the youth to avoid violence to prevent further chaos.
“We have seen protests infiltrated by goons, resulting in property destruction. For the sake of peace, we are urging the Gen-Z to call off the protests,” Khalifa stated. “Peace is paramount, even if protests continue. Every parent worHe also advised the president to form a competent cabinet capable of serving the country effectively. “The nation needs leaders who can deliver and uphold the Constitution and the people’s trust. We cannot afford another weak cabinet,” Khalifa asserted at a press briefing at the CIPK offices.
CIPK National Treasurer Sheikh Hassan Omar commended President Ruto for making the difficult decision to dissolve his cabinet, viewing it as a clear indication of his responsiveness to the people’s voices.
