Residents in Sololo, Moyale, are urging the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to address the escalating human-wildlife conflict in their area. According to locals, wild animals, particularly marauding hyenas, have been causing terror by approaching homesteads at close range.

The community has suffered from these attacks, resulting in serious injuries for some residents. Currently, three individuals are receiving treatment at Sololo Hospital after being attacked by a hyena while returning home around 7 p.m.

The residents responded by retaliating against the hyena, killing it and setting its body on fire.

Cases of human-wildlife conflicts are becoming more frequent, prompting calls for compensation, installation of physical barriers, and wildlife translocation efforts to mitigate the situation.
