Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa has described surviving a serious road accident on Likoni Road in Nairobi as fortunate. The incident involved three vehicles, resulting in his SUV Toyota Landcruiser being completely damaged near Winners Chapel church.

The accident occurred on Monday morning shortly after Kalekwa had watched his team secure a 1-0 victory over Naivas FC in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League promotion play-offs at Dandora Stadium. Sofapaka’s win sealed their passage with a 2-0 aggregate score.

Kalekwa attributed the accident to a loss of brakes in his vehicle, which caused the driver to lose control and collide with other cars before coming to a stop against a large concrete structure by the roadside.

“God has been good to me. Last week I attended the graduation of my daughter in Britain and on Sunday I witnessed my team Sofapaka win the promition play-offs to remain in the top tier, then a few hours later this happens. This was the work of the devil and I’m happy to have survived the crash,” Kalekwa told People Sport.

He added: “The impact was massive. All the airbags in the car came out and the vehicle is written off. I have been receiving several calls from friends and well wishers who are very worried about, but I want to tell them that I am out of danger, just nursing some serious abnominal pains.”

Kalekwa and his driver were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
The mangled wreckage was towered to Industrial Area Police Station.
