Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai believes the Azimio la Umoja coalition has fulfilled its purpose and should now be dissolved. Alai stated that the primary goal of forming the coalition ahead of the 2022 general election was to secure the presidential seat, a goal that ultimately was not achieved.

“We see as a situation where we are being led by people who have different interests, we were supposed to win an election and so if this is going to be the end of Azimio, so be it,” he said in a TV interview.

Responding to Wednesday’s incident in which some youth disrupted an Azimio press conference at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, the MCA said as ODM they will not accept to be dictated on what should be done.

“You can’t be in opposition and most of your people are in government,” he stated.

He claimed the meeting was purely for ODM leaders and not Azimio.
Wiper’s Kalonzo was addressing the press when the youths numbering over 50 stormed the tent claiming they would not allow any leader to disrespect Raila.

“Nobody disrespects Raila when we are alive, no press conference here,” the youths shouted as they turned chairs upside down.
Members of the fourth estate covering the event were also caught up in the melee.

Raila has since apologised to the journalists caught up in the melee that also saw some leaders roughed up.

“The Rt. Hon Raila Odinga regrets the events of yesterday (Wednesday) and takes this early opportunity to offer unreserved apologies to the journalists and fellow leaders who got caught up in the unfortunate incident,” his spokesperson Dennis Onyango said.

He assured the journalists and leaders caught up in the unfortunate incident that his party would take action on the perpetrators.
He added that Azimio would get to the root of how the goons were able to breach security to interrupt the event.
