Police are investigating the death of 27-year-old student Frankline Ondwari, whose body was discovered in a toilet after an apparent suicide along Kirinyaga Road, Nairobi.

Ondwari, a student at the University of Nairobi, had been missing since July 17 after leaving his mobile phone charging. His decomposing body was found hanging from a window in the toilet of the residence he shared with a friend.

The friend, who detected a foul odor, discovered the body hanging from a rope when he checked the source of the smell. The student lived on the 20th floor of a residential building on Kirinyaga Road. Police have yet to determine the motive behind the incident and have launched an investigation. The body has been taken to Nairobi Funeral Home for an autopsy and further investigation.

Police have noted an increase in suicide cases and emphasize the need to address this trend. The World Health Organization attributes such cases to factors including joblessness, personal loss, academic pressures, legal and financial troubles, bullying, previous suicide attempts, family history of suicide, alcoholism, substance abuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.

In a separate incident, a 30-year-old casual worker, Kevin Baraza Mvuya, died after being crushed by a casting machine at a construction site in Loresho, Nairobi. The accident occurred around midday on Tuesday while Mvuya was working with about 20 other workers.

The machine fell on his head, causing severe head injuries and profuse bleeding. He was rushed to PCEA Kikuyu Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police are investigating this accident, which is part of a series of similar incidents reported at construction sites.
