Natembeya urges government to take experts into account when appointing

Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has urged the government to prioritize expertise in its appointments. Speaking at the burial of Priscilla Were, a former principal at Lugulu Girls and Bunyore Girls, Natembeya emphasized that Were would have been a deserving candidate for a position in the Ministry of Education if the government prioritized qualified individuals.

Natembeya also pointed out that while the constitution mandates that Cabinet Secretaries possess degrees, there are instances of CSs with questionable educational backgrounds.

“This woman (Priscilla Were) would have been the Education Minister long ago if this country recognized merit and knew where the experts were. But now, although the constitution says a minister must have a degree, there are some in government whose educational background is questionable,” Natembeya stated.

According to Natembeya, the country will continue to struggle if experts and talented individuals are sidelined.

“The government must be serious because our country will continue to suffer if people who have been blessed with talent by God are not given decision-making positions,” he added.

His comments come at a time when President William Ruto’s Cabinet has been criticized for not appointing experts in specific fields.
