Peter Munya, the leader of the Party of National Unity (PNU), has stated that he is not interested in taking up any position in President William Ruto’s government. Munya emphasized that he prefers to remain in the opposition to fulfill his oversight role rather than support the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He also clarified that he has not been approached or offered any government position.

“I have not been offered any job and even if I am offered I will decline. I think I am better off working with the people to bring the changes that they require than going in there to strengthen a government that people have a lot of issues with,” he said.

Last week, President Ruto nominated four members from Raila Odinga’s ODM party for appointment to his “broad-based government.”

The nominees include Hassan Joho for Mining and Blue Economy, John Mbadi for Treasury, Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperative and SMEs, and Opiyo Wandayi for Energy. Reports indicate that the president is also contemplating appointing more opposition members to various key government positions.

However, notable figures from the Azimio coalition, such as Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa from DAP, have already rejected any potential appointments in the government.

“I want to make it clear that I have no intentions of joining the Kenya Kwanza government. We can all see what is happening in this government. I cannot join that government. Something suspicious is happening there and even President Ruto knows. He has offered me some positions but I can not join him,” Kalonzo said.

Wamalwa, the former Defence Cabinet Secretary, on his part said he is not interested in any position including in any capacity as that of the Attorney General or Cabinet Secretary.

“What I want Ruto cannot give me. I cannot get a job in Ruto’s government. I don’t want to be one of his ministers, and I don’t want his money,” he said.

He stated that he would not even contemplate taking up the AG position, saying it would amount to a downgrade having served as Justice Minister after the promulgation of the 201o Constitution.

“The AG’s office was a department in my ministry when I served as Justice Minister during the implementation of the Constitution, how can it be that after being a minister, I be demoted to a departmental head?” he posed.
